I am Harvard- and Yale-educated general surgeon with nine years of attending experience in general surgery, trauma/acute care surgery, and surgical oncology. After completing my residency at Stanford in 2014, I worked at Stanford's affiliate public hospital--a level 1 trauma center--for seven years as a staff surgeon and Stanford Assistant Professor of Surgery (Affiliated). I spearheaded the development of the hospital's surgical oncology program, treating the full spectrum of colorectal, pancreas, liver, and stomach cancers. Umut Sarpel, MD, MSc, is a board-certified surgeon who specializes in Surgical Oncology and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery. She received her Bachelor of Science degree with Distinction in Research from the University of Rochester and earned her medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Sarpel completed her residency in General Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and then pursued an additional two years of fellowship training in the field of Surgical Oncology while attaining a Master of Science in Clinical Research.
