Jane Alexandra Kessler earned her Bachelor of Science (Sc.B.) degree at Brown University, graduating summa cum laude. She received her M.A. in clinical psychology from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), completing predoctoral internships at the University of Michigan's Psychological Clinic and at the Detroit Psychiatric Institute (DPI) on the Children’s Inpatient Service.
