He is a board-certified cardiologist and Associate Professor of Medicine at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. He has over 15 years of experience in clinical practice and teaching in an academic setting. An experienced public speaker, he is able to explain complex medical concepts in a simple and articulate manner. He has won several teaching awards throughout his career. Dr. Schumaecker holds five post-secondary diplomas including degrees in medicine, biology, music, information technology and business administration. He also holds five medical board certifications including cardiology, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, cardiac computed tomography and clinical informatics. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and has served on committees for both of these professional societies.
