Dr. Marco Ferrara is a double board-certified general and colon and rectal surgeon with the Orlando Health Colon and Rectal Institute. A native of Orlando, he has cared for patients in Central Florida since 2018 and specializes in: Advanced robotic and laparoscopic surgery Colon and rectal cancer Inflammatory bowel disease Endometriosis Dr. Ferrara provides compassionate care for his patients, who often have life-altering conditions. He strives to collaborate with patients to ensure that they receive the best quality of care possible. He also enjoys being an educator and has been teaching medical students, residents and fellows since he finished his training. Dr. Ferrara’s Training As an undergraduate, he studied biology at the University of Florida in Gainesville, graduating summa cum laude. Dr. Ferrara earned his medical degree at the Florida State University College of Medicine in Tallahassee. He completed his general surgery residency at Brookwood Baptist Health program in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Ferrara also served as academic chief resident in his final year. He performed his fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans. About Dr. Ferrara He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is board certified by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and by the American College of Surgery. Dr. Ferrara’s worked has appeared in peer-reviewed medical publications, and he has authored book chapters on topics pertaining to colon and rectal surgery. He also serves as a reviewer for Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, considered the world's leading publication in colorectal surgery. He is an expert reviewer for C-SATS, an international program aimed at enhancing surgical techniques through video review and education. Dr. Ferrara is the Program Director for the ACGME-accredited colon and rectal surgery residency at Orlando Health, which takes 3 residents on a yearly basis. He also is a clinical assistant professor of surgery at both the FSU College of Medicine – Orlando campus and the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, also in Orlando. Outside of work, Dr. Ferrara enjoys spending time with his wife and three sons. He likes to play the drums and guitar, attend concerts, exercise, travel and cook.
