Kathleen (Katy) Miller is double board certified in pediatrics with a subspecialty certification in adolescent medicine, a specialty requiring a three-year fellowship through the American Board of Pediatrics. She is one of approximately 600 board certified adolescent medicine specialists in the United States. Specific areas of interest and expertise include: - primary care for adolescent and young adult patients (ages 12-30) - outpatient standards of care for primary care of adolescents and young adults - diagnosis and medical management of eating disorders - sexual and reproductive health, including contraception and sexually transmitted infections - LGBTQ health and gender health / gender dysphoria (including puberty blockers and hormone therapy such as testosterone and estrogen) - adolescent brain development and substance use - sexual abuse and assault - college health - immigrant health and global adolescent health - mental health of young people - minor consent and confidentiality She is an expert in standards of care for pediatric and adolescent medicine, and has created and implemented system-wide policies on teen privacy and confidentiality, sexually transmitted infections, and chaperone policies for sensitive exams. She is an educator who has taught learners at every level, from lay persons to physician colleagues. She has held leadership roles on the national and international level with the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine. She has authored over 25 peer-reviewed scientific articles and received over $200,000 in grant funding focusing on adolescent health. She has been quoted in national and international media, including NPR News, BBC World News, and the New York Times. Prior to her current role, she was the medical director of Adolescent Health at Children's Minnesota, the largest pediatric hospital system in Minnesota.
