Shah, MD, FACC, is a board-certified cardiologist, Professor of Medicine, serving as Chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Imaging and Director of the Cardiovascular MRI (CMR) Laboratory, Houston, Texas. With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Shah is a globally recognized leader in cardiovascular imaging, specializing in CMR, MRI safety, and the evaluation of valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy, myocardial viability, and aortic syndromes. His clinical expertise includes interpreting complex imaging for conditions such as coronary artery disease, mitral valve prolapse, aortic dissection, and myocardial infarction, making him a sought-after consultant for high-stakes cases. As an active researcher, Dr. Shah has secured grants from the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation, leading groundbreaking studies on CMR applications in valvular heart disease, sudden cardiac death risk stratification, and myocardial remodeling. He has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in premier journals, including New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Circulation, JACC, and Journal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (JCMR). His work has directly informed clinical guidelines, notably as a writing committee member for the American Society of Echocardiography/Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR) guideline on noninvasive evaluation of native valvular regurgitation. Dr. Shah is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and serves on the Board of Trustees of the SCMR, where he has chaired multiple committees. He has delivered over 150 invited lectures worldwide, including at the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, and international cardiology congresses, cementing his reputation as a thought leader.
