i have 36 years of experience in both private practice and academics, I was full-time Clinical Assistant Professor in GI at Columbia University's Harlem Hospital Center before moving to Downstate Health Sciences University, where I served as Director of Medical Education. I was awarded "Teacher of the Year" by the GI fellows in 2016, and have been consistently praised by faculty and fellows for my communicative capabilities in teaching. During my 28 years of private practice, I designed and built my own office/endoscopy center on an empty piece of land. My endoscopy unit was credentialed by the Joint Commission. I performed five endoscopic procedures in my unit each morning, before going to the hospital. There I would perform inpatient endoscopies, including ERCP, and of course see consultations. i have always maintained a strong interest in liver disease. In my practice, I performed a large number of the local liver disease consultations in the hospital and in my office. I successfully treated many ill patients with liver disease in our ICU, often after stopping their variceal bleeding endoscopically. At Kings County Hospital, i led a full-day, busy liver clinic every Monday from 8 AM to 5 PM, and then taught at another liver clinic at Downstate on Tuesday mornings. I have published my own research in liver disease, as well as several letters to the editors of widely read gastroenterology and liver journals. Currently, i review manuscripts for publication in a major GI journal. I am also an ABIM Item Writer, composing questions for the Gastroenterology Board Examination.
