Additional Information

With over 30 years experience in residential and light commercial building, construction, and remodeling, I have cultivated a deep understanding of all aspects of the industry. My expertise also spans residential/commercial building inspections, roofing/siding, and sheetrock installation. My hands-on background provides attorneys and clients with invaluable insights into construction practices, building codes, and safety compliance. I hold an Unrestricted Construction Supervisor's License in Massachusetts, along with OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 Construction Safety certifications. My qualifications also include a National Floor Safety Institute Certification in walkway safety, a certification in building envelope inspections and remediation from the Building Envelope Science Institute, and a certification in residential building codes by the International Code Council. Additionally, I am a certified Pella Window Installer and a certified tribometer operator for the ASM925 and ASM825, which measure static and dynamic coefficient of friction on walking surfaces. I have been retained as an expert witness in a wide array of cases involving construction defects, safety compliance, and building codes. My experience includes testifying in 55 trials, depositions, and arbitrations, and being qualified as an expert in building codes in Federal Court. Notably, I provided expert testimony in a New York City construction accident case that resulted in a record-setting $62,000,000 verdict for a single plaintiff in Queens, NY. I have also been qualified as an expert witness in district court, superior court, bankruptcy court, and Federal Court. One of my most notable contributions was when I was engaged by a leading Boston law firm to defend a $24,000,000 construction defect claim for a $30 billion/year home builder. My involvement facilitated a favorable settlement with the condo owners' association and secured contribution settlements from eight trade partners. My practical, hands-on knowledge of construction surpasses that of engineers and architects, making my contributions critical in high-stakes litigation. My value as an expert stems from decades of practical experience in building and remodeling. I have personally constructed and remodeled hundreds of buildings, handling everything from permitting to punch lists. This includes ensuring strict adherence to building codes, managing budgets and timelines for efficient project completion, and delivering exceptional workmanship across various trades. My insights are rooted in real-world applications, which provide a unique and practical perspective in litigation and arbitration settings. In addition to my construction expertise, I have served on the Building Code Board of Appeals in Orleans, MA., and as the Housing Code Inspector for the Lower Cape Cod Community Development Corporation. These roles have further solidified my deep understanding of building codes and regulatory compliance. My teaching and presentation experience includes having authored and presented Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses on construction safety, OSHA regulations, commercial building inspections, slip-trip-fall investigations, and ramp and single-step investigations. I have also constructed and inspected hundreds of residential and commercial stairways, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and safety standards. I possess specialized knowledge in building envelope inspections and remediation, tribometer usage for assessing walking surface friction, and stairway construction and inspection. My unique blend of hands-on construction experience and deep understanding of building codes and safety regulations provides unparalleled value to clients. Unlike engineers and architects, my direct involvement in construction projects allows me to assess real-world applications of building practices, ensuring accurate and practical insights in litigation and arbitration.
