Dr. Mala Freeman-Kwaku is the lead physician at Arboretum Gynecology. Formally Arboretum Obstetrics and Gynecology, she has practiced medicine for the past 22 years. She has a special interest in the treatment of symptomatic uterine fibroids, heavy menstrual bleeding, and menopausal symptoms. She had practiced for 20 years with two other physician partners, providing obstetric and gynecologic care for the women of the Charlotte, North Carolina area. She recently transitioned to Gynecology only from a group physician practice to a more intimate healthcare environment, working with another physician and a nurse practitioner. She has cared for many of her patients for the past 22 years. She provides obstetrical care for the women of the greater Charlotte area in her role as a laborist for the Atrium Healthcare system and as an obstetrical locums physician traveling to meet the needs of other communities. She attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia- both for undergraduate education, majoring in Psychology and Spanish, and medical school, where she received a full scholarship with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Her internship and residency were at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington DC. She is skilled in hysteroscopy, office procedures , the Sonata fibroid ablation procedure, open myomectomies and hysterectomies for large uterine fibroids. She has served as as a speaker for Gynesonics, the maker of the Sonata device. Through her private company, MFK Advising Group, LLC she also provides speaker opportunities and expert witness work. She is available for networking, consulting, and collaborating with other medical professionals to promote excellent medical care. She is married to Dr. Hans Kwaku and is the proud mother of four children. She is active in her church and enjoys travelling the U.S. and around the world.
