Alissa Carver, MD, FACOG is double board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM). She completed her MD at University of Alabama at Birmingham, her Ob/Gyn residency training at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and MFM fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch. She is currently in private practice in Wilmington, North Carolina but her prior work as an attending physician has included being an assistant professor with active clinical practice at Mercer University (Macon, GA) and the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI). Her current focus is inpatient and outpatient high risk pregnancy consultation, surgical care of cervical insufficiency, prenatal ultrasound, and prenatal genetic diagnosis. Dr. Carver’s background includes years of experience in fetal therapy/surgery, coordination of high-volume placenta accreta imaging and delivery care, institutional peer review, and implementation of patient safety/quality improvement protocols on labor and delivery. This includes 15 years of high acuity, inpatient obstetric care in units staffed by obstetric, family medicine, nurse midwife, and nursing professionals along with multidisciplinary collaboration. She has lectured numerous times at a local and regional level and been active in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. This includes work for the National Board of Medical Examiners as a Test Material Development Committee member for the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Dr. Carver has published nearly 20 peer-reviewed articles in subjects relating to the clinical care of high-risk pregnancies, holds membership in numerous professional organizations supporting evidence-based obstetric and maternal-fetal care, and serves as a reviewer for three separate scientific journals. Since 2016, Dr. Carver has experience with plaintiff and defense team consultation and expert testimony over a wide breadth of maternal-fetal conditions and obstetric clinical care and has completed previous SEAK training courses.
