Dr. Potru is a former associate professor of anesthesiology at a major academic institution in the Southeast and is triple-board-certified in anesthesiology, interventional pain medicine, and addiction medicine; he is one of less than 25 clinicians across the country with this combination of certifications and has unique expertise as a result. Dr. Potru is a nationally recognized and well-published expert in opioid safety/stewardship as well as the treatment of chronic pain and addiction and perioperative management of the patient with substance use disorders; he sits on and is an active contributor to numerous national anesthesia/pain committees and working groups. Dr. Potru has given invited lectures at multiple national and international conferences, including that of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, the American Academy of Pain Medicine, and the International Anesthesia Research Society, as well as multiple invited grand rounds presentations on anesthesiology, chronic pain and addiction, including at highly reputed institutions such as Duke, Vanderbilt, MD Anderson Cancer Center, the Mayo Clinic, and numerous others. He has special interest in opioid safety/prescribing, opioid and other substance use disorders (addiction), and interventional pain medicine (including advanced spinal procedures including epidural injections, facet injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, and intrathecal drug delivery, among others). In addition to his academic credentials, Dr. Potru has very strong writing and speaking skills as well as extensive experience in depositions, testimony, chart review, and utilization review.
