I am a doctorally prepared Certified Nurse Midwife in practice for 22 years. I currently practice as a midwife laborist/ hospitalist and faculty member for a large healthcare system in Northern California. I have attended over 10,000 births during my career and practiced in high risk, medium risk and low risk hospitals and birthing centers in New York City, California and Australia. Currently I am the lead midwife faculty member in the Ob/Gyn residency program at Kaiser Permanente Northern California Oakland Medical Center teaching our Obstetric residents both on the labor floor and in didactic sessions and thus am keenly aware of current, evidence based standards of care. I currently supervise 24 Obstetric residents and work closely with my Obstetric, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Neonatal and Anesthesia colleagues. My clinical specialties include hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, infectious disease management in pregnancy (the subject of my doctoral research), fetal heart monitoring, labor complications, disorders of placentation and opioid substitution therapy. I am Assistant Editor and chapter author of "Clinical Practice Guidelines for Midwifery and Women's Health", a foundational textbook for Midwives and Nurse Practitioners that will be published in 2025. Currently I co-chair the Supporting Vaginal Birth Team, the Obstetric Code Blue Team and the Obstetric Critical Events Training Team- training Nurses, Midwives, Obstetricians, Neonatologists and Anesthesiologists in the emergency management of hypertensive crisis, eclampsia, hemorrhage, amniotic fluid embolism, obstetric code blue and perimortem cesarean section through lectures and skills simulation. I have provided expert witness and chart review services for 6 years both for plaintiff and defense teams.
