My original training was in pediatrics and I practiced pediatric emergency medicine for 5 years after 1 year in private practice. I was a clinical assistant professor through the Medical College of Georgia , and later at University of Illinois School of Medicine ( Chicago) , and did bedside teaching of residents and medical students as well as weekly didactic sessions. I was board certified in pediatrics from 1988-2002.
I returned to residency , specializing in anesthesiology and completed the program along with a 6 month fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. I practiced in an academic setting in Chicago for 4 years , specializing in pediatric anesthesiology, and pediatric and adult cardiothoracic cases at Rush Presbyterian St Luke's Medical Center .I was an assistant professor , doing bedside teaching of residents, medical students and student nurse anesthetists, as well as didactic lectures.
