I am Dr. Maryam Ghiassi, MD, a Board-Certified ophthalmologist specializing in retinal, macular, and vitreous diseases. I currently practice in Sacramento, California with Retina Consultants Medical Group. I grew up in Canada, Iran, and Japan before moving to the U.S. for college. I majored in biophysics and biochemistry at Yale University and continued my studies there for medical school, where I discovered my passion for ophthalmology. Afterward, I completed an internship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC, followed by an ophthalmology residency at Columbia University, where I had the honor of serving as chief resident. I then completed my vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver. Dr. Carolyn Carman has over 30 years of experience in comprehensive eye care for all ages and specializes in visual impairment due to ocular injury, ocular disease, or brain injury. She has been involved in expert witness testimony for over 20 years and serves both plaintiff and defense counsel. She is a residency-certified, licensed, practicing Therapeutic Optometrist and Glaucoma Specialist in Texas and is a Board Certified/Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry. Dr. Carman is a former University of Houston Clinical Professor and Clinic Director. Dr. Carman is the former Chair of the Texas Optometry Board after receiving 2 Texas Governor appointments.
