Matthew W. Wright, MD, FACP, is a board-certified internist and Fellow of the American College of Physicians with more than 20 years of clinical experience in hospital medicine. He is the Managing Member of Sonoran Hospital Medicine, PLC, through which he maintains an active locum tenens hospitalist practice at facilities in Arizona and Montana. Dr. Wright earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was initially certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 2004 and recertified with a Focused Practice in Hospital Medicine in 2015. He currently holds an active ABIM certification in Internal Medicine. In 2016, he was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP). Dr. Wright served as a Medical Officer in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Major, with both active duty and reserve service from 2001 to 2009. His military assignments included primary care and inpatient consultation at Luke Air Force Base, where he also served as Medical Director of Internal Medicine and Medical Director of Laboratory Services. His administrative and leadership experience in hospital medicine includes serving as Medical Director of Hospital Medicine at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital and as Chief of Hospital Medicine at Western Regional Medical Center. Dr. Wright has served as an Outside Medical Consultant to the Arizona Medical Board since 2016 and to the Arizona Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners since 2018, providing standard-of-care analysis and written opinions in regulatory proceedings involving internists and hospitalists. He is the principal of Canyon State Medicolegal Consulting, LLC, through which he provides expert standard-of-care analysis for legal proceedings. He is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor (Adjunct Clinical Faculty) at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine and a peer reviewer for the Journal of Hospital Medicine. Dr. Wright is licensed to practice medicine in Arizona and Montana.
