Eric L. Thomas, MD, FACS is a board-certified general surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) with more than 20 years of clinical experience in general surgery. He provides independent medical expert review and testimony in medical malpractice matters for both plaintiffs and defendants, offering objective, evidence-based opinions grounded in current standards of surgical care. Dr. Thomas maintains a broad-based, high-volume general surgery practice encompassing both elective and acute care surgery. His extensive clinical experience includes open, minimally invasive, and robotic surgical techniques. His practice includes upper and lower endoscopy, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, management of intestinal obstruction, colectomy, breast surgery, soft tissue masses and tumors, abdominal wall hernias, and the emergency management of a wide spectrum of acute surgical conditions. An expert in robotic surgery, Dr. Thomas has performed more than 2,000 robotic procedures across a broad range of general surgical diseases. He also serves as a surgeon educator for Intuitive Surgical, training practicing surgeons nationwide in the safe, effective, and evidence-based use of the da Vinci® Surgical System. Dr. Thomas currently serves as Chair of the Department of Surgery and Director of Robotic Surgery at his current hospital. Throughout his career, Dr. Thomas has remained actively engaged in the full spectrum of contemporary general surgery, providing continuous inpatient, outpatient, and emergency surgical care. His ongoing clinical practice enables him to offer expert opinions that reflect current surgical standards and real-world practice. Dr. Thomas was commissioned in the United States Navy in 1993 under an HSPS medical school scholarship and was active duty US Navy for 12 years. He currently serves his country in the US Navy Reserves. Dr. Thomas holds an unrestricted medical license in the Commonwealth of Virginia. His CV is available upon request.
