Dr. Martin Moore-Ede is an internationally recognized authority on sleep, fatigue, circadian rhythms, human performance, occupational safety, and fatigue risk management. He is the Founder and Chairman of Circadian® and Circadian Expert Services and has spent more than four decades helping organizations understand and mitigate the effects of sleep loss, fatigue, and circadian disruption on safety, health, and operational performance. A physician and physiologist, Dr. Moore-Ede earned his medical degree from the University of London and his Ph.D. in Physiology from Harvard University, where he later served on the faculty of Harvard Medical School as Associate Professor of Physiology. He is widely recognized for pioneering research into the biological clock and the impact of fatigue and sleep disruption on human behavior, cognition, decision-making, and safety. Dr. Moore-Ede has directed more than 100 research studies and over 300 consulting projects involving sleep, fatigue, shift work, human factors, workplace safety, and operational risk management. His work has focused on understanding how fatigue contributes to accidents, errors, injuries, and reduced performance in safety-sensitive industries and developing evidence-based strategies to mitigate those risks. Areas of Expertise - Sleep deprivation and fatigue - Fatigue risk management systems (FRMS) - Circadian rhythms and biological timing - Shift work and work-rest scheduling - Human performance and alertness - Human factors - Fatigue-related accidents and incidents - Occupational and workplace safety - Transportation safety - Commercial trucking fatigue - Railroad fatigue - Maritime fatigue - Aviation fatigue - Operator impairment - Risk assessment and safety management systems - Sleep disorders and excessive daytime sleepiness - Workplace injury prevention - Safety culture and operational safety - Cognitive performance and decision-making - Fatigue countermeasures A significant portion of Dr. Moore-Ede's work has focused on the relationship between fatigue and safety in transportation, manufacturing, mining, healthcare, utilities, and other 24-hour operations. Through Circadian®, he has advised major corporations, government agencies, and safety-sensitive organizations worldwide on fatigue risk management, shift schedule design, operational safety, and injury prevention. His work has helped organizations reduce fatigue-related incidents, improve employee alertness, and enhance operational reliability. Dr. Moore-Ede is the author of numerous scientific publications, books, and industry guidance materials addressing sleep, circadian rhythms, fatigue, workplace safety, and human performance. He has been a frequent advisor to industry leaders, governmental organizations, and policymakers on issues involving fatigue risk and public safety. As an expert witness, Dr. Moore-Ede has extensive experience providing expert reports, deposition testimony, trial testimony, and consulting services in matters involving fatigue-related accidents, transportation incidents, workplace injuries, human factors, sleep disorders, shift work, operational safety, and risk management practices. He has assisted both plaintiff and defense counsel in evaluating complex scientific and operational issues involving human performance and safety. Dr. Moore-Ede provides expert consultation, expert reports, deposition testimony, trial testimony, and litigation support in matters involving sleep, fatigue, circadian disruption, human performance, workplace safety, transportation safety, occupational risk management, and fatigue-related accidents.
