I am a Registered Nurse (RN) with over 20 years of experience in the medical field and 10 years of experience as an RN. The majority of my career as an RN has been in a correctional setting. I have been a Certified Correctional Healthcare Provider (CCHP) since 2022. I also have medical experience in the fields of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, General Surgery and Endocrinology. I obtained my Associate Nursing Degree from Taylor College in 2016. I began working at a county correctional facility in 2018 as a Charge RN managing 500+ inmates. My duties there included new intake medical screenings, detox evaluations, emergency response, and coordinating care with providers. I was later promoted to the Director of Nursing (DON) position where I was responsible for managing the care provided by all nursing staff at the facility to ensure adherence to national standards of care as well as applicable policies and procedures. Approximately two years later, I was promoted to Health Services Administrator (HSA). In this role, I oversee the Director of Nursing and maintain operational oversight over all on-site and off-site healthcare services to ensure compliance with national, state, and local health services regulations. I also manage contracts and vendors that are involved in providing services to the facility, oversee all personnel, patient, and clinical quality management and operations management, and assist the Chief Healthcare Administrator and Medical Director at the facility in the development, implementation, monitoring, and annual review of all health care policies and procedures. During my time as both the DON and HSA, I have been part of a multidisciplinary team comprised of both medical leadership staff and the Administration Team on the security operations side to obtain and maintain state and national accreditations of the facility, including Florida Model Jail Standard (FMJS), Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission (FCAC), American Correctional Association (ACA), and National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC). I have knowledge of and experience with the standards of care in the provision of nursing care, and I am uniquely positioned to offer opinions regarding the provision of nursing care in a correctional setting based upon my professional experience and qualifications.
