Dr. Jad Bou Monsef is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon and Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Rehabilitation Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. He completed advanced fellowship training in spine surgery at the Mayo Clinic and maintains an active surgical practice at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Bou Monsef provides independent medical examinations and causation analysis for spine-related matters throughout New York. His active surgical practice gives him a current, clinically grounded perspective on the injuries and surgical decisions most commonly encountered in complex medicolegal matters. Areas of evaluation include cervical and lumbar disc herniations and radiculopathy, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, traumatic and post-surgical spine conditions, causation and apportionment in the setting of pre-existing pathology, surgical necessity and appropriateness, permanent impairment assessment, and interpretation of MRI, CT, and electrodiagnostic findings. Dr. Bou Monsef has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in major spine surgery textbooks including Benzel's Spine Surgery. He has presented research at national and international meetings including AAOS, NASS, CSRS, and SRS. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the J.
