Additional Information

I am Dr. Mona L. Camacci, MD, MSc, a Board-Certified ophthalmologist specializing in retinal, macular, and vitreous diseases. I practice in Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, and Beaufort, South Carolina, with Retina Consultants of Charleston. I graduated from Franklin & Marshall College with dual majors in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Health and Human Rights. As a George J. Mitchell scholar, I earned an MS in Equality Studies from University College Dublin. I completed my medical training at Penn State College of Medicine as a Paul and Daisy Soros fellow, followed by an Ophthalmology residency at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and a fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the University of Rochester. I have expertise in managing complex retinal diseases, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, secondary intraocular lenses, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, artery and vein occlusions, and retinal detachments. My interest in recruitment developed after I recognized the lack of support and practical advice available for soon-to-be graduates. While seeking my first job post-fellowship, I actively sought guidance from both my old and new mentors. Now, with the help of my partner, Dr. Ghiassi, I aim to streamline the recruitment process for future fellows, helping them secure the right positions with greater ease.
