Additional Information

Hello: I am writing to offer my services as an emergency medicine legal consultant and expert witness. I am a board-certified, residency-trained emergency physician with over 15 years of clinical experience in high-acuity, high-volume emergency departments (mainly level 1 trauma centers), where I routinely manage complex trauma and critically ill medical patients. My practice also includes freestanding emergency departments as well as rural and critical access hospitals, providing me with a broad perspective across diverse care settings. I have extensive experience in legal consulting and expert witness work for both defense and plaintiff cases. I have comprehensive expertise in all phases of the legal process, including case review, expert report preparation, attorney collaboration, depositions, and trial testimonies. I am a member of the American Bar Association. My case experience spans traditional medical malpractice as well as complex and non-traditional matters, including injuries and deaths in police custody. I have also provided expert testimony in criminal cases involving charges such as manslaughter, murder, domestic violence, and child abuse. In addition to my clinical work, I serve as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where I am actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical trainees. I am also certified in Hyperbaric and Undersea Medicine and oversee the operation of our hyperbaric program. I have continually been actively involved in our hospital case review committees and have given numerous lectures about medical documentation and risk mitigation. My commitment to education extends beyond medicine into the legal arena, where I take pride in helping attorneys and juries clearly understand complex medical issues. My leadership background—including roles as Chief Resident, Associate Medical Director, Medical Director for Paramedics, and Medical Director for Advanced Practice Providers, as well as service on a Board of Directors—has strengthened my ability to communicate clearly, think critically, and maintain composure in high-stakes environments. I approach expert witness work with a strong ethical foundation, prioritizing objectivity and clarity in service of the judicial process. I see my role as an advocate for the jury—helping translate complex medical information into accurate, understandable conclusions. I am known for being well-spoken, confident, responsive, persuasive, and easy to work with. I pride myself on timely and efficient communication. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how my experience and approach may support your case. I am happy to arrange a phone conversation to determine whether we would be a good fit. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Lucas Hennings, MD, FACEP, FAAEM
