42Additional Information
I have worked in the field of long-term care over 42 years and been licensed as an Administrator since 1983. In 2017 I was the second person in the nation to become a designated Qualified Health Services Executive, (HSE) through the National Association of Boards of Long Term Care Administrators (NAB) in Washington , DC which currently qualifies a speedy path of licensure in 20 states through adoption of the HSE designation by those State Boards, the highest designation nationally. My career has had depth from being a local Administrator of Skilled Facilities, 18 years of serving as a Regional Director with operational oversight to 17 locations in seven states and since 2012 serving in two locations as the CEO of two nonprofit free standing Continuing Care Retirement Communities responsible for both the day-to-day operations of Senior Housing with Services, Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living, In Home Services, Home Health Care, HUD Housing and the corporate responsibilities of Governance reporting to the Board of Directors. I have always had a keen interest in the "legal" side of my work as well as the resident and ministry side of my work. The former is technically challenging but real world; the latter is deeply meaningful and intensely relational and private. While different they form the entire piece of the day-to-day work, done well, in our field of work. One needs both to do well. I have always in my career been front and center "at the table" for discovery, mediations, depositions when called upon, meeting with plaintiff attorneys and the family members with liability cases as well as employment litigation, business contract lawsuits, Federal and State Regulatory disputes. While we take care of people , the external environment is highly legal and regulated and I have always paid close attention to it. I have been an expert witness before. My desire is to review a case honestly, openly, candidly and provide my best thinking. I am very comfortable with either the Defense or Plaintiff. Understanding the facts in the context of the situation is very important at the outset for case evaluation and direction. I have extensive experience in daily operations, federal and state regulations, campus and facility culture of residents, families, staff, policies and procedures , human resources, staff conflicts, regulatory oversight, regulatory disputes, conflict management with staff, residents, families, managing the continuum of care, responsible for developing and managing an operational and capital budget, oversight of the annual audit, cost report, IRS 990, Corporate Compliance Program, QAPI, involvement in state and national associations including serving on committees and boards, serving on a Risk Retention Group Board, serving on the Ethics Committee of the American Medical Directors Association, Rotary International to name a few. Educationally, I have experienced a progression from having a double major in college of Business Administration and Religion at Union University, a M.Div. in Theology at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, followed by a two academic , post Seminary residency program at the School of Pastoral Care at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville PA completing 5 Units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) specializing in Adult Intensive Care, Cardiac Intensive Care, and three advanced units in Oncology along with coverage of emergencies in the hospital on a rotation service for the 600 bed hospital on 24 hour shifts. Once in the field of long-term care, I completed a MA from Webster University in Health Services Management. In 2010 I completed the training through the National Center for Housing Management (NCHM) as a Registered Housing Manager (RHM). I am currently serving as the CEO of Westminster Towers in Rock Hill SC since 2016 but as I near semi-retirement look to return to the passion of legal expert witness work, Thanks so much for taking the time to read about my background.
