Additional Information

Dr. Sofiane Lazar is a dual board-certified Anesthesiologist and Intensivist practicing at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he serves as Clinical Assistant Professor and Program Director of the Anesthesiology Critical Care Fellowship. He holds four national board certifications: ABA Anesthesiology, ABA Critical Care Medicine, NBE Advanced Perioperative Echocardiography, and NBE Critical Care Echocardiography — placing him among a small subset of physicians nationally with demonstrated expertise across both anesthesiology and critical care at the highest credentialing level. Dr. Lazar’s clinical practice is focused on high-acuity, complex cases including cardiac anesthesia, thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR), electrophysiology (EP) procedures, and cardiovascular intensive care. As an attending physician, he has independently managed well over 50 ECMO cases and has personally performed approximately 15 ECMO cannulations, encompassing initiation, management, and weaning of both VA and VV configurations. His advanced echocardiography expertise — validated by dual NBE certification in perioperative and critical care echo — positions him as a highly qualified expert in cases involving hemodynamic management, intraoperative TEE interpretation, and echo-guided clinical decision making. As Fellowship Program Director, Dr. Lazar is responsible for defining and upholding the educational standards of anesthesiology critical care training at a major academic medical center. He has directly supervised and graduated fellows in anesthesiology critical care medicine, giving him authoritative standing on questions of training standards, scope of practice, and the expected competencies of board-certified critical care anesthesiologists. His peer review and quality improvement roles at Jefferson further ground his opinions in institutional standard-of-care frameworks. Dr. Lazar has contributed to the peer-reviewed literature and remains actively engaged in academic medicine, ensuring his clinical opinions reflect both current evidence and contemporary practice standards. He is available to serve as an expert witness in cases involving anesthesia malpractice, critical care management, ECMO, perioperative complications, hemodynamic instability, airway management, TEE interpretation, EP anesthesia, and CVICU standard of care.
