Don is the founder of Next Step Solutions, Inc., an independent security management consulting firm established in 2014. He conducts security risk assessments, writes policies and procedures, assists in developing security personnel, and provides assistance in the procurement of security products and services. He also provides expert opinions and testimony for plaintiff and defense cases involving security negligence, inadequate security, and premises liability. Don is board-certified in Security Management, having earned the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification through ASIS International in 2015. Don is a current mentor instructor in the annual CPP Review Course, conducted in Los Angeles each year. Don has provided mentoring in the course for the past ten years with a focus on litigation support. Don retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the US Air Force Reserve after thirty-two (32) years of part-time service, including nine (9) years in the enlisted ranks as a security policeman, six (6) years as a Weapons Systems Officer (WSO) in the F-4 C/D aircraft, spent two (2) years as a Security Operations Officer, and then six (6) years as a Security Forces Commander. Don also spent nine (9) years in the US Air Force Reserves assigned to the 75th Division, US Army National Guard, serving as Air Operations Officer, where he assisted the Division in developing war plans. In addition to his military roles, Don spent sixteen (16) years with Aramco Services Company, a subsidiary of Saudi Aramco, with eight (8) years as supervisor of the security unit, six (6) years as supervisor of the Background Investigations Unit, and two (2) years as an Internal Training Consultant. He has Middle East cultural expertise, conducting security consulting assignments in Saudi Arabia. Don is an active member of ASIS International, the ASIS-Orange County, CA chapter, currently serving as the ASIS-OC Chapter Treasurer. He is also a member of the International Association of Professional Security Consultants (IAPSC), and InfraGard-LA (FBI).
