Edward J. Perper, MD, FACC is a board-certified cardiologist with an MD from Harvard Medical School and a cardiovascular fellowship from Stanford University Medical Center. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Perper practiced noninvasive and interventional cardiology for 12 years, including positions as Associate Chief of Cardiology at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and as a partner in invasive cardiology practices in California and Massachusetts. His clinical work covered acute MI, coronary artery disease, cardiac catheterization, coronary stenting, CABG evaluation, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, aortic dissection, pulmonary embolism, ECG interpretation, stress testing, echocardiography, and anticoagulation management. Dr. Perper brings a second area of expertise few physician consultants possess. He has spent 28 years in medical communications, co-founding Science Branding Communications and AnimationMD, and serving as Medical Director at Hybrid Medical Animation. He has designed and produced more than 100 medical animation and science presentation projects for academic medical centers and medical device manufacturers. This background gives him documented experience converting complex cardiovascular findings into clear explanations a non-physician audience follows. For legal matters, Dr. Perper works with attorneys and medico-legal consulting firms on cardiovascular medical record review, causation analysis, and litigation consulting. He reviews cardiology records, identifies diagnostic and treatment issues, reconstructs clinical timelines, and produces organized analysis attorneys use to evaluate case merit and develop strategy. Dr. Perper conducted medico-legal consultation work during his years in clinical practice, completing approximately 30 case reviews, 5 depositions, and 1 trial appearance. This work concluded in 2002 when he transitioned to his 28-year career in medical communications. He returned to expert witness practice in 2026 with renewed focus on cardiovascular case review, causation analysis, and litigation consulting. He served as President of the Cape Cod Chapter of the American Heart Association and has published peer-reviewed research including work on myocardial ischemia in diabetic patients and the safety of dipyridamole-thallium imaging in high-risk patients with coronary artery disease. Dr. Perper is based in Southern California and works with attorneys nationally.
