Ophthalmology Expert | Ocular Trauma | Vision Loss | Standard of Care Dr. Charlotte Akor, MD is a Yale University graduate and a board-certified ophthalmologist with nearly 20 years of clinical and surgical experience in cases involving ocular trauma, vision loss, general eye disease. She maintains an active general and pediatric ophthalmology practice and serves as a primary participant in her hospital’s trauma call rotation, managing acute ocular injuries and ophthalmic emergencies. Over the course of her career, Dr. Akor has evaluated and treated hundreds of acute ocular trauma cases, including open globe injuries, orbital fractures, intra-ocular foreign bodies, traumatic optic neuropathy, hyphema, retinal detachment, and post-traumatic diplopia. Her trauma exposure includes high-volume call participation at one of the largest and busiest medical centers in the country during her tenure as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. This experience provides deep familiarity with injury mechanism analysis, emergent surgical decision-making, and long-term visual prognosis. Dr. Akor performs record review, causation analysis, apportionment opinions, and structured standard of care evaluation. For more than ten years, she has conducted quality assurance, utilization review, and peer chart review, assessing diagnostic accuracy, treatment appropriateness, surgical judgment, and compliance with accepted ophthalmic standards. She has also performed disability evaluations for Veterans Evaluation Services for several years, translating ophthalmic findings into structured impairment determinations using AMA Guides criteria.
