MICHAEL J. MOROWITZ, MD Dr. Michael J. Morowitz is a Professor of Surgery with Tenure at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and an attending pediatric surgeon at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, where he has practiced since 2010. He is board certified in both General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery. Dr. Morowitz specializes in pediatric general and thoracic surgery with particular expertise in neonatal surgery, necrotizing enterocolitis, surgical complications in critically ill children, and pediatric surgical infections. He serves as Associate Director of the Center for Medicine and the Microbiome and maintains active clinical privileges at both UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital. His clinical and research experience encompasses the full spectrum of pediatric surgical care, including emergency and elective procedures, neonatal intensive care unit management, and pediatric critical care. Dr. Morowitz has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications in leading medical journals including Science Advances, Nature Medicine, and the New England Journal of Medicine, and serves as a grant reviewer for the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Morowitz completed his surgical residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and pediatric surgery fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine and undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College.
