Dr. Shamim is double board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Obesity Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He has extensive formal training in general surgery, minimally invasive, bariatric surgery, robotic surgery, and endoscopic procedures. Since 2022, Dr. Shamim has been consistently recognized by his peers as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in Surgery. Dr. Shamim earned his medical degree from Aga Khan University, Pakistan’s premier medical institution, where he graduated in the top 10 percent of his class. He completed his general surgery internship at the University of Florida, followed by a general surgery residency at Howard University, during which he consistently scored above the 96th percentile on standardized surgical training examinations. He subsequently completed a fellowship in advanced robotic gastrointestinal, endoscopic, and bariatric surgery at Staten Island University Hospital, where he also served as a clinical instructor in the Department of Surgery. Since 2020, Dr. Shamim has practiced in a high-volume surgical setting, performing an average of over 700 surgical cases annually, including more than 1,000 robotic-assisted procedures. He is actively involved in the education of family medicine residents and medical students and currently serves as an Adjunct Clinical Professor at the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Shamim holds numerous professional certifications, including SAGES Flexible Endoscopy; Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery; Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery; Fundamental Use of Surgical Energy; Intuitive Robotic Surgery; Advanced Trauma Life Support; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support; and Basic Life Support. He has served as a guest peer reviewer for several peer-reviewed medical journals, including the Journal of Clinical Case Reports, Surgical Innovation, Obesity Surgery, and the Annals of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgery.
