Dr Condie was trained in adult, child and forensic psychiatry from 1983 until 1989 at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Mental Health Center. In addition, during his forensic psychiatry fellowship he was a visiting fellow at Harvard Law School under the sponsorship of Dr Alan Stone and Dr Thomas Gutheil. He has practiced child and adult psychiatry as well as forensic psychiatry in Massachusetts for 42 years including his training, and has served as President of both the New England Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society. He is the Chair of the Ethics Committee of the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society. He serves as Lecturer part time at Harvard Medical School through an affiliation with the Cambridge Health Alliance Department of Psychiatry where he participates in the Complex Child Case Review Committee and offers individual supervision as well as forensic consultations. He has also participated as an expert witness in the Harvard Law School Trial Advocacy Workshop, a moot court exercise to introduce Harvard Law students to the issues of using psychiatric testimony in court. In addition he has spoken at courses for the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education center as an expert in the use of psychiatric testimony. He previously served from 2012 until 2022 as Medical Director and then Chief Medical Officer for Vinfen Corporation, a non-profit company with more than 400 sites including group homes and day programs for people with major mental illness or developmental disorders, and was the chief clinician supervising 7 psychiatrists and more than 40 nurses. During that time, he was a member of the Mentally ill Problematic Sexual Behavior Statewide Steering Committee which supervises the treatment of mentally ill people with sexual offending issues. He stepped down as CMO and then served as the lead psychiatrist for a Vinfen outpatient clinic in Northeast Massachusetts for more than a year, and then transitioned for 2 years to a part time role as a psychiatrist for 2 different PACT [Program for Assertive Community Treatment] teams which take referrals of the highest acuity clients from the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health. Dr Condie has served as a supervisor for impaired physicians through the Massachusetts Medical Society Physician Assistance Program, which serves as a diversion for impaired physicians who receive treatment and, in cooperation with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine, and through the program may avoid the permanent loss of their license to practice medicine. In addition he has served as an expert witness for the Board of Registration in Medicine on 2 occasions. He has testified in high profile murder cases involving adolescents in Massachusetts, as well as malpractice cases, and has been retained as an expert in cases where reports were prepared but the cases settled before deposition or trial.
