With more than 20 years as a professor and consulting meteorologist, Dr. Hennon specializes in hurricane wind analysis and impacts, historical weather reconstruction, weather radar interpretation, and severe weather. He has published over 35 papers in professional journals and conference proceedings, including a book chapter on modern hurricane wind observation. Dr. Hennon has also provided expert witness depositions and testimony in civil and criminal cases requiring weather data reconstruction/interpretation and provided dozens of expert research and reports for a wide variety of client needs. Examples of past case work include: 1) Determining sustained and gust wind speeds at the top of a condominium tower during the landfall of a hurricane, 2) Reconstructing temperature at a specific address for a criminal prosecution, 3) Providing an opinion on civil twilight for a particular location and time of year, 4) Assessing the likelihood of icing conditions at a business for slip and fall litigation, and 5) Determining hourly wind speed, gust, and rainfall over a two-day for three addresses in New Orleans during the landfall of Hurricane Katrina (2005). Prior to becoming a full-time consulting meteorologist, Dr. Hennon worked at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, FL as an applied research scientist. There, he worked with forecasters to integrate satellite data into forecast operations. Following his tenure at NHC, Dr. Hennon spend nearly two decades as a professor of atmospheric science at two universities. His research focused on hurricane wind analysis and prediction using satellite data and artificial intelligence. Dr. Hennon is a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and the Association of Certified Meteorologists. He is an AMS Certified Consulting Meteorologist (#747), one of less than 250 currently active. Dr. Hennon lives near Asheville, NC, home of the largest repository of weather and climate data in the world at the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI).
