David Del Vecchio has over 34 years experience as an active practicing architect and expert witness. He is licensed in multiple states and is a Certified Interior Designer in NJ. He holds an RCS Building Inspector license, and an NCARB certificate. Licensed in NJ, NY, CT, PA, MA, and FL. Provided expert services in IL and the Bahamas. David taught at Essex County College for 8 years, including Construction Means and Methods, Architectural Design, and Architectural History. Cases have involved ADA / Building Accessibility; Personal injuries and wrongful death matters involving design or construction; Building codes and associated regulations; Building envelope design, water infiltration, mold, EIFS, roofing, windows, vapor barrier, masonry specifications, standing seam roofing, flat roofs; Architectural copyright, intellectual property, standard of care; Premises litigation, BOMA / Common Area / Tenant Area measurements and area calculations; Illegal construction / construction without a permit; Change Order analysis, project administration, cost over runs, delay claims; ANSI Property Condition Assessment. Private and public clients, plaintiff and defense, including insurance carriers, architects, general contractors, subcontractors, developers, landlords, tenants, home owners, casino owners, municipal, county, and state government agencies. David has worked with over 100 law firms, and 30 insurance carriers. Building types have included high-end residential projects, high rise buildings, retail stores, warehouses, schools, churches and synagogues, restaurants, libraries, low rise housing, condominiums, car washes, first aid and fire company buildings, and casinos. While most cases settle before trial, mediation, or arbitration, David has testified at trial 16 times under oath and many times at deposition since 1996. David has been the recipient of the AIA Newark and Suburban Architects Herman Litwack, FAIA Award, the AIA New Jersey Distinguished Service Award, the AIA Architect of the Year Award, and the Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow Award. He is a member f the American Institute of Architects since 1990, served on its Board of Directors for three years, was the Regional Representative to the Small Firm Roundtable, and was a member of the State Government Network starting in 2004. David has moderated events at 3 National AIA Conventions. David has served as President, 1st Vice President , and 2nd Vice President of AIA New Jersey. He has served on the AIA Legislative and Government Affairs Committee since 1993, and served as its Chair from 2004-2007, and again from 2012-2017. Various committees he served on include Long Range Pkanning, Nominations, Communications, Bylaws, State Convention, Design Conference, East Coast Green and served on several Task Forces, including Governance, Light Weight Construction, School Design and Construction, Interior Design. He moderated the Municipal Zoning Incentives for Sustainable Design Panel Discussion in 2010. David has served on the New Hersey Architects Political Action Committee since 2003, and has been its Chair since 2018. David was President of AUA Newark and Suburban Architects in 1998, having served as a trustees and office since 1994. He participated in panel discussions including “Real Estate / Design / Construction Industry Trends” in 2012 and “We the People - Citizen Architects and Government” in 2021. David underwent training conducted by the California Office of Emergency Services Safety Assessment Program and the University of Hawaii Bational Disaster Preparedness Training Center FEMA Hurricane-Plan: Resilient Building Design for Coastal Communities in 2016. He has been recognized for his role as Project Architect for retail design projects while working for Stephen W. Schwartz, AIA, including 6th Avenue Electronics in Springfield, NJ, and Fendi in Stamford, CT.
