Dr. Geoffrey James Flattmann is a board-certified general surgeon with over 25 years of clinical experience and more than 25,000 surgical procedures performed. Based in Natchez, Mississippi, Dr. Flattmann has maintained a solo private surgical practice since 2000, serving as a trusted provider of comprehensive general surgical care, including both open and minimally invasive procedures. Dr. Flattmann is a nationally recognized leader in robotic-assisted surgery and serves as a Robotic Surgery Proctor and Featured Speaker for Intuitive Surgical. As of May 2025, he has performed over 1,400 robotic cases. His deep experience spans a wide range of general surgical procedures, including gastrointestinal surgery, hernia repair, gallbladder and biliary tract procedures, appendectomy, and surgical oncology. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Flattmann has served in multiple hospital leadership roles, including Chief of Surgery at Merit Health Natchez (current), Chief of Staff during the COVID-19 pandemic response, and Director of Trauma Services for a Level III trauma center. His leadership background gives him a unique administrative and operational perspective on surgical care and hospital standards. Dr. Flattmann is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, with Maintenance of Certification most recently completed in 2022. He holds active medical licenses in Mississippi and Louisiana. His academic background includes a Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University School of Medicine (Alpha Omega Alpha honor society) and a B.S. in Biology from Tulane University (Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa). As a medical expert witness and chart reviewer, Dr. Flattmann provides detailed, unbiased evaluations of general surgery-related claims, including allegations of malpractice, standard of care deviations, and surgical complications. He currently works with The Expert Institute and is available to consult on plaintiff and defense matters nationwide. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in journals such as The American Surgeon, Surgical Rounds, and Journal of Pediatric Surgery, and has presented at national surgical conferences. His research has focused on angiogenesis inhibition, pediatric surgery, and laparoscopic techniques. Dr. Flattmann maintains certifications in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and he previously served as an ATLS instructor. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of several professional societies, including the Mississippi State Medical Association and the Rives Surgical Society.
