Dr. Vicente Martinez is a intraoperative neurophysiologist with over a decade of clinical and academic experience in intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring (IONM), including more than 6,000 brain, spine, and peripheral nerve procedures. He holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Michigan and completed a clinical fellowship in IONM at the University of Washington, where he currently serves as Associate Professor/Neurophysiologist in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. Dr. Martinez’s expertise includes real-time interpretation of somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP), motor evoked potentials (MEP), electromyography (EMG), and brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEPs) during neurosurgical and orthopedic procedures. He regularly provides protocol development, technologist supervision, and intraoperative decision support for complex cranial and spinal surgeries. He has specific experience with IONM in pediatric neurosurgery, trauma surgery, deep brain stimulation (DBS), and tumors involving cranial nerves. He spends more than 90% of his professional time on the practice of intraoperative neuromonitoring. Dr. Martinez also has extensive experience teaching graduate-level courses in neurophysiology and applied neuroscience. At the University of Washington, he serves as course director and lecturer for advanced coursework on neurophysiology. He has mentored numerous IONM technologists, fellows, and doctoral trainees in neurophysiology. He has authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications and serves on national ethics and fellowship review committees. As a medicolegal expert, Dr. Martinez has been retained in multiple malpractice cases involving neuromonitoring standards of care, signal interpretation, and surgical complication analysis. He has supported both plaintiff and defense teams and has experience providing deposition testimony.
