Dr. Tessnim R. Ahmad is a board-certified ophthalmologist with advanced fellowship training in glaucoma and complex anterior segment surgery. She completed a general surgery internship and ophthalmology residency at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where she also earned her medical doctorate with honors. Dr. Ahmad then completed a glaucoma fellowship at the University of California, Davis (UCD), where she will now practice as faculty. Dr. Ahmad brings extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of complex ophthalmic conditions, with a particular focus on glaucoma, cataract surgery, and anterior segment pathology. Her clinical expertise spans a wide range of medical and surgical treatments, including laser therapies, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), trabeculectomy, and glaucoma drainage devices. She is also experienced in managing ocular complications related to systemic disease, trauma, and rare syndromes. Dr. Ahmad is widely published, with more than 35 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, including in JAMA Ophthalmology, Cornea, and the Journal of Glaucoma. Her scholarly work frequently intersects with health disparities and surgical outcomes, as well as pediatric ophthalmology, giving her a nuanced understanding of the clinical and systemic factors that impact visual health for adults and children. In addition to her clinical and academic credentials, Dr. Ahmad has served on multiple hospital committees focused on patient safety, diversity and inclusion, and quality review. She has experience reviewing medical errors and quality improvement initiatives, equipping her with insight into standards of care and institutional responsibility. Dr. Ahmad also has extensive experience in teaching, research, and peer review, serving as a reviewer for journals such as the American Journal of Ophthalmology. Prior to her medical training, she worked as a policy researcher where she gained experience in budget analysis, expert testimony, and contract negotiations. She is available to provide expert consultation and testimony in areas including but not limited to: glaucoma diagnosis and management; cataract surgery complications; ophthalmic trauma; pediatric ophthalmology; laser and MIGS procedures; visual impairment and disability assessment; and standard of care and medical negligence.
