A New Medical-Legal Endeavor: After five and a half years away from practicing plastic surgery to focus on treatment and recovery from Acute Myeloid Leukemia, I’m grateful to return to part-time clinical work with a renewed sense of purpose and a broader perspective. Experiencing the healthcare system as a patient deepened my empathy and sharpened my insight into what truly matters in the doctor-patient relationship. Alongside resuming hands-on plastic surgical care and aesthetic treatments, I’m beginning a new professional chapter: offering services as an Expert Medical Witness and conducting Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs). During my medical leave, I earned a Master’s in Legal Studies with a concentration in pharmacologic and medical device law. This training has enhanced my ability to assess and explain complex medical issues from a legal standpoint, particularly in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Throughout more than thirty years in private practice, my work has been rooted in direct, patient-centered care, not academic publishing or frequent courtroom appearances. While my legal experience is focused rather than extensive, it has been purposeful and effective. I've performed numerous IMEs and am known for thoughtful communication with patients, insurers, and attorneys. I'm committed to mastering the unique responsibilities and standards expected of expert witness work.
