Andrea Weber, MD, is a board-certified internist, psychiatrist, and addiction medicine specialist who cares for patients in clinic and hospital settings. Dr. Weber specializes in caring for people who use drugs, including by not limited to opioids (i.e. heroin, fentanyl), methamphetamine, cocaine, alcohol, tobacco/nicotine, and cannabis. This includes best practices in the use of medications for addiction treatment, such as buprenorphine (Suboxone). Dr. Weber also cares for the physical and mental health of adult patients, specializing in diagnosing and treating conditions that have overlapping psychiatric and physical symptoms, such as catatonia, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, and encephalopathy. Dr. Weber is a distinguished clinician and educator with over 8 years of experience in eastern Iowa. She is an award-winning educator providing dozens of lectures annually and supervising future healthcare workers in clinic and hospital settings. Dr. Weber is an active researcher with numerous publications in prestigious journals. Her research interests include addiction, integrated care models, and improving treatment for patients with concurrent addiction and psychiatric disorders. She has been a principal investigator and co-investigator on several federally-funded projects. Dr. Weber participates in media interviews discussing topics related to substance use, addiction, opioid use disorders, and evidence-based policies to prevent drug overdose deaths. Dr. Weber represents psychiatry on the state medical cannabis advisory board and helps lead a non-profit organization focused on health equity for people who use drugs. Dr. Weber is available to review cases involving substance intoxication, substance withdrawal, management of addiction including use of medications, such as buprenorphine (Suboxone), and management of pain for people with opioid addiction. Dr. Weber is also available for cases involving medical cannabis, medical monitoring of psychiatric treatments, and suicide risk assessment.
