Roger D. Berry Automotive Powertrain SME Mr. Berry owns a company that is managing the powertrain engineering, safety system development and the certification portion of several industry leading vehicle programs. Pilot is also working with technologies including Embedded Controls, EV (Electric Vehicle) Powertrain Engineering including ICE optimization, ADAS (Autonomous Vehicle) and AI (Artificial Intelligence) for automotive and military programs. Pilot has extensive international experience and provides business, legal (e.g., patent law) and technical consulting services. Mr. Berry has acted as an Expert Witness in 6 cases. Those cases required expertise in powertrain engineering, IP protection, Automotive System integration, Patent Law, OEM v Supplier contractual obligations and System Simulation/Validation. His clients included Tesla, Arctic Cat, ZF, Siemens and Brose. Mr. Berry’s previous company employed 300 people and specialized in automotive powertrain technologies including electronic powertrain control systems, powertrain application engineering, diagnostics and system validation engineering. Prior to that, Mr. Berry spent nine years leading Ford’s efforts to conceive, design, specify, develop, certify and launch some of the world's most advanced Powertrain Control Systems. Mr. Berry has managed the safety engineering and compliance work to accomplish an OEM approved “full electric” vehicle for the US market. Mr. Berry leads Product Development including automotive engineering of powertrain control systems for Gasoline, Diesel, Hydrogen, Electric and Natural Gas powered vehicles. Mr. Berry also manages the EPA and ARB approval processes in these programs. Mr. Berry has worked to gain, protect and invalidate patents. He and his team members perform complete Product Development including the development of Requirements for Design, Development and Validation. This includes APQP, DFMEA, Functional Safety and DVP&R disciplines. Mr. Berry also works with government agencies to earn compliance with emission and safety regulations, develop industry leading automotive propulsion systems, design control systems, manage safety system compliance and support overall vehicle engineering. COSWORTH TECHNOLOGY, INC. 1995 to 1996 CEO Mr. Berry headed up Cosworth's North American Operations during the transition from his privately held company to a subsidiary of a multi-national company. He managed strategic planning (including technology investment prioritzation), team building and business reshaping after the acquisition. Cosworth officially earned “Tier One” supplier status with several international OEMs including Ford. Mr. Berry worked with Pilot’s sister company in England to enhance business opportunities and profitability. INTELLIGENT CONTROLS, INC. 1982 to 1995 President In 1982, Mr. Berry co-founded Intelligent Controls; an Automotive Powertrain Control System (including engine, transmission, diagnostics, safety and catalytic systems) engineering company. His company’s work was with companies including Chrysler, Ford, GM, Toyota, Hyundai, Ferrari, VW, Bosch, Siemens, Boeing, Mercury Marine and Porsche. The company grew from 2 to 300 people in 14 years. FORD MOTOR COMPANY 1973 to 1982 Program Engineer Mr. Berry’s work at Ford centered on leading the development of pioneering, industry leading Powertrain Control Systems. This included the specification and integration of electronics, and driveline components and sub systems.
