Additional Information

Mike is a senior consultant with Group Nine Risk Consulting, a firm specializing in security risk management, forensic consulting, and security training. He joined Group Nine Risk Consulting following a long and successful military career that spanned over 25 years, followed by 8 years leading the campus safety and security operations of Creighton University. Mike served as a Security Forces officer in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a colonel. During his career, he gained deep experience in physical security, law enforcement, and emergency management. In his final assignment, he served as the senior security and law enforcement officer for Air Force Special Operations Command, where he provided executive oversight for physical security, law enforcement, anti-terrorism, force protection, and emergency management programs supporting 19,500 Airmen at five main installations and multiple combat operating bases worldwide. He also served as the Chief of Police for three different military installations. Mike developed significant experience in designing security plans in high-threat environments. As the Deputy Director of Protection, Multi-National Force - Iraq, he developed and implemented strategic-level antiterrorism and force protection policies to preserve the warfighting capability of over 300,000 coalition personnel serving on over 60 major sites across Iraq. He designed protective features and procedures for key Government of Iraq facilities and conducted security vulnerability assessments of high-risk election headquarters across Iraq ahead of the 2009 national elections, identifying vulnerabilities and recommending actionable remedies. As the Director of the NATO Police Institutional Advisory Team, he led a multinational team of 40+ military, civilian, and contract police advisors to guide the professionalization of the Afghan National Police. Following his military service, Mike transformed the campus safety of Creighton University by significantly enhancing physical security, emergency preparedness, technology integration, and crisis response. As the Assistant VP of Public Safety, he led a 50-person team to safeguard a community of over 10,000 students and employees on two urban campuses in Omaha, Nebraska, and Phoenix, Arizona. He transformed an aging security technology infrastructure by integrating video surveillance and card access systems into a unified platform and applying CPTED principles to systematically close surveillance gaps across campus. He also served on the Threatening Behavior Committee, collaborating with local law enforcement to affect the arrest of chronic offenders. Mike is board certified in Security Management, having earned the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification through ASIS International. Globally recognized as the standard of excellence for security management professionals, the CPP demonstrates knowledge and competency in seven key domains of security: Security Principles and Practices, Business Principles and Practices, Investigations, Personnel Security, Physical Security, Information Security, and Crisis Management.
