Dr. Alfonso is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the Emory School of Medicine and has 24 years of experience in comprehensive ambulatory primary care to include women's health, pediatric care, and geriatrics. She currently serves as the Medical Director for the Emory PA Program, which has been consistently ranked among the top 5 in the nation for over 17 years. Previously, she held the position of Medical Director for the Residency Training Clinic overseeing a team with more than 30 physicians for over 13 years. Dr. Alfonso is a former Chief Medical Officer for Alliant Health Solutions, a medical management company overseeing utilization review, quality improvement, and prior authorizations for Medicaid and Medicare in Georgia. She continues to maintain an active clinical practice, including telemedicine, and regularly supervises residents, PAs, and NPs in both her own practice and as a Medical Director for CVS Minute Clinic. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Alfonso is deeply engaged in professional leadership. She served as President of the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), as a quality mentor for the AAFP, and currently represents Georgia as a delegate to the AAFP. She has recently been selected as a Commissioner for the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), the organization that accredits over 300 PA programs across the U.S. Dr. Alfonso has earned multiple accolades, including being named a Top Doc by Atlanta Magazine for 7 consecutive years, Top 50 Most Influential Latinos in Georgia, and is an elected member of the Alpha Omega Alpha, the national honor medical society.
