Dr. Benjamin Kurth, M.D., F.A.C.P, is board certified in Internal Medicine, and currently employed as an Academic Hospitalist at Medstar Washington Hospital Center. He has reviewed over 15 cases for the Veterans Health Administration to determine if standard of care had been met. After completing Internal Medicine residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, he became an Academic Hospitalist at the same institution. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Marines 6th Regiment in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and was deployed to Helmand, Afghanistan for 9 months, as the Task Force Southwest Surgeon. During this tour, he served as the lead medical advisor to Brigadier General David Odom, additionally he gained firsthand experience in battlefield and trauma medicine while caring for over 19 casualties. Upon return to the US, he became a staff internist at the Naval Medical Center, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina performing both primary care and Hospital medicine. After fulfilling his commitment to the Navy, Dr. Kurth separated as Lieutenant Commander, and joined Medstar Washington Hospital Center as a Hospitalist engaged in teaching Internal Medicine Residents, Medical Students, as well as serving as the Rapid Response Committee focused on rapid evaluations of critically ill patients escalations of care within hospitalized patients. Dr. Kurth is a highly decorated Navy veteran (Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal Under Combat Conditions and Top Naval Medical Forces Atlantic Providers) and respected hospitalist who won the Chief Medical Officer's Award at Medstar Washington Hospital Center for outstanding clinical performance.
