Scott Ruthfield has spent 25+ years leading software engineering efforts and teams. As a product, program, and software engineering leader, he built complex and high-scale software systems for companies like Microsoft and Amazon. As a CTO and VP of Engineering, he led technical efforts for Top 50 Web Properties. As a founder and CEO of the Pacific Northwest’s leading software engineering consultancy, he built teams that created key software products for worldwide organizations like ESPN, Disney, Warner Media, Nintendo, and Alaska Airlines, created a successful premium staffing organization, and successfully exited to a PE-backed global technology staffing firm in 2021. Scott’s highly knowledgeable about product development, including user experience and customer-centered design; software project management and delivery, including best practices in agile and Scrum software development, both for external-facing and internal-facing applications; and building effective software engineering and staffing organizations. Scott’s consulting teams completed more than 100 successful engagements, and he can provide expertise on the process for building working software. He has a background in online community, social media, and user-generated content. He has patents from his time at Microsoft Corporation. With a background in both engineering management and client service, Scott’s an expert at communicating with a wide range of parties - technical leaders, legal team members, company executives, and outside parties - explaining concepts and conclusions in understandable ways. Scott currently independently consults with CEOs, CTOs, and other executives on product and technology leadership, technical staffing, and software engineering consulting. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science and Sociology and a Master of Computer Science from Rice University.
