I'm a senior consultant with Group Nine Risk Consulting, a firm specializing in security risk management, asset protection, and security training. I joined Group Nine Risk Consulting following a long and successful federal law enforcement career that spanned over 25 years. I retired as an FBI supervisory Special Agent in June 2019. I am board-certified in physical security, having earned the Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification through ASIS International. The PSP certification demonstrates one’s knowledge and experience in threat assessment and risk analysis; integrated physical security systems; and the appropriate identification, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of security measures. I hold a Master of Science in Criminology from Florida State University College of Criminology and Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Belmont University, equipping me with a comprehensive academic foundation in criminal behavior analysis, investigative methodologies, and the principles of justice. Through these programs, I gained advanced knowledge of criminological theories, data-driven investigative techniques, and the legal frameworks that guide modern law enforcement and security practices. My education also emphasized critical thinking, research proficiency, and analytical skills, enabling me to approach complex challenges with precision and develop effective strategies for crime prevention, risk mitigation, and organizational resilience. My security and law enforcement career began in 1994 as a Special Agent with the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI). I served as a Violent Crime Investigator, Red Team Leader, and Physical Security Manager at Lackland AFB. I investigated assaults and homicides, analyzed evidence, reconstructed crime scenes, and testified in court. As a Red Team Leader, I conducted covert simulated attacks to assess security vulnerabilities in USAF missions and facilities. As an AFOSI Detachment Physical Security Manager, I implemented and maintained security measures to protect USAF personnel, property, and sensitive information. I conducted vulnerability assessments, developed corrective action plans, ensured policy compliance, and provided recommendations to enhance security. I began my FBI career in 1997 after graduating from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. As a Special Agent, I served on the Evidence Recovery Team (ERT), organized crime and gang task forces, and as a violent crime investigator and Private Sector Coordinator. I processed crime scenes, preserved evidence, and testified in federal court. I investigated and dismantled violent criminal organizations, conducted surveillance, analyzed financial records, and collaborated with law enforcement agencies. As a Private Sector Coordinator, I advised organizations on insider threats, active shooter response, and security compliance. Throughout my 25-year federal law enforcement career, I completed advanced training in physical security, special operations, crime scene processing, evidence recovery, firearms, and self-defense. I have testified in both federal and military courts as a federal law enforcement investigator in various hearings, grand jury proceedings, and jury trials. I am a member of ASIS International, InfraGard National Members Alliance, the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC), the National Apartment Association (NAA), and the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS).
