20Additional Information
I conduct forensic neuropsychological evaluations in both civil and criminal matters. My work focuses on decision-making capacity in guardianship and related proceedings, competency to stand trial, and mental state at the time of the offense. I also perform independent medical examinations and provide consultation to attorneys regarding the strengths and limitations of opposing expert opinions. My evaluations are grounded in standardized neuropsychological testing, with embedded and stand-alone validity measures to assess effort and response style. I integrate test data with clinical interview, record review, and collateral information to form opinions that are objective, reproducible, and directly tied to the legal question at hand. I have extensive experience evaluating conditions frequently at issue in litigation, including neurocognitive disorders such as dementia and stroke, traumatic brain injury, psychotic disorders, trauma-related conditions, and intellectual and developmental disabilities. I also assess malingering and functional neurological presentations using established methods. In addition to forensic work, I direct a clinical practice focused on comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological evaluations and train postdoctoral residents in assessment. I have taught at the graduate level and regularly present to attorneys and clinicians on topics related to capacity, competency, and the interpretation of neuropsychological data. My writing has appeared in continuing legal education materials through the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education and in academic publications. My reports are structured, concise, and written in clear language. Each opinion is explicitly linked to the data and tailored to the referral question, allowing attorneys to use the findings efficiently in deposition, negotiation, or trial.
