Kevin F. Barrette, MD is an Interventional Spine and Pain Management doctor and head of Interventional Pain at Scripps Clinic Medical Group in San Diego, CA. He is a graduate of Boston University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as his fellowship in Interventional Spine and Musculoskeletal Medicine at Stanford University. His fellowship included direct training under the tutelage of the current and past presidents of the International Pain and Spine Intervention Society (IPSIS). Prior to his work at Scripps Clinic, he was an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Barrette holds the following certifications and licenses: American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, diplomat American Board of Pain Medicine, diplomat California State Medical License (unrestricted) DEA license (unrestricted) Dr. Barrette is an innovator in the field and continues to adopt new modalities to help patients manage painful spinal conditions. He is one of the leading practitioners performing Basivertebral Nerve Ablation or Intracept, and was an author and researcher on the Intracept trial. He performs all spine injections including cervical and thoracic transforaminal epidural steroid injections according to the guidelines set forth by IPSIS (formerly ISIS and SIS). He has a strong interest in telehealth and served as the Chief Medical Officer for a telehealth startup for several years and recently earned his Executive Masters of Business Administration. In addition to his medical expertise, Dr. Barrette has experience in television as an actor as well as public speaking. Dr. Barrette is an avid researcher and educator. He serves on the research committee as well as the coverage committee for IPSIS as well as the local research and education committees for Scripps. He regularly hosts visiting students from across the country. Dr. Barrette manages a large division within the department of Orthopedic Surgery at Scripps Clinic and has a very busy practice. He performs over 2,500 procedures per year including primarily spine injections and nerve ablations.
