Jeremy K. Rush, MD FAAP is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and is the only orthopedic surgeon in the San Antonio area who is dual-fellowship trained in pediatric orthopedic surgery and orthopedic sports medicine. His clinical practice includes sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder, elbow, and ankle, with a focus on complex knee surgery, patellar instability, and shoulder instability. He also specializes in the treatment of fractures and other acute and chronic injuries in the young athlete. Dr. Rush graduated from Texas A&M University with a BA in Biology. He then attended the Texas A&M University System College of Medicine, where he received an M.D. and graduated with honors and was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He then completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Brooke Army Medical Center and a subsequent pediatric orthopaedic fellowship at the Campbell Clinic / University of Tennessee in Memphis, TN. Dr. Rush also completed an Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Virginia. During his time in Charlottesville, Dr. Rush cared for collegiate athletes at the University of Virginia and James Madison University, including the 2019 Men’s Basketball and Lacrosse National Championship Teams. Following his initial training, Dr. Rush served as an orthopedic surgeon in the United States Army. During his 12-years on active duty, he served as Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedics at Brooke Army Medical Center. Dr. Rush provided orthopedic care for critically injured soldiers, airmen, and Marines, as well as local children, in the forward deployed and austere setting. He deployed twice, once with the 14th Combat Support Hospital to Camp Bastion, Afghanistan and a second time with the 86th Combat Support Hospital to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait and Baghdad, Iraq. Additionally, he served as mission commander for a Pediatric Orthopedic Humanitarian Mission to Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He is a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), the Army Achievement Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), the Global War on Terror Service Medal and Expeditionary Medal, the NATO Medal, and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal. Prior to returning to Texas, Dr. Rush served as the Director of Sports Medicine at Nemours Children’s Health in Jacksonville, FL. During his time in north Florida, he was club physician for the Jacksonville FC and Clay County Soccer Club, as well as multiple local high schools. He was also highly involved in resident and fellow education and was an Assistant Professor of Orthopedics at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He also currently serves a Team Physician for US Soccer and has travelled overseas providing medical care for the U16 and U17 national teams. Dr. Rush has lectured extensively and published in the peer-reviewed literature on issues related to sports medicine and pediatric orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Rush is a fellow of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics and is active in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America.
