Lily Johnston, MD, MPH is board-certified in Vascular as well as General Surgery with 9 years of experience operating on adult patients in Virginia, Minnesota, and California. She specializes in operating on blood vessels in the neck and body including aortic and other aneurysms; aortic dissections; peripheral arterial disease in the arms and legs; carotid artery and cerebrovascular disease; renal and mesenteric vascular disease; venous or vein disease; connecting vessels for hemodialysis access; exposing and protecting blood vessels for spine surgery; vascular trauma or injury, and assistance with tumor resection when blood vessels are involved. Dr. Johnston received her BA (summa cum laude) from Princeton University (Princeton, NJ) where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa followed by her MD from the University of California, San Diego (La Jolla, CA) where she received an award for Academic Excellence. After a residency in General Surgery at the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA), she completed a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN). She also earned a Master's of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health (Baltimore, MD). Dr. Johnston has been awarded prizes for academic achievement at multiple institutions. She serves on the Quality Measures Committee and the Coding Committee for the Society for Vascular Surgery, the predominant vascular surgery specialty society based in Illinois. She has also served in a leadership position at the American College of Surgeons. She prides herself on her ability to communicate effortlessly with patients and providers about complex medical issues in easy-to-understand terms. She currently cares for patients in several area hospitals in the greater Sacramento, CA area.
