Dr. Purnell Traverso, MD, MSc, FACS, is a board-certified surgeon with subspecialty certification in hand surgery and over a decade of focused clinical experience in complex disorders of the upper extremity. Fellowship-trained in hand, wrist, and microvascular surgery, Dr. Traverso brings expert-level insight into conditions involving nerve, tendon, joint, vascular, and soft tissue pathology of the hand and forearm. Dr. Traverso is the founder and medical director of THInc | Traverso Hand Inc., a Florida-based private surgical practice devoted exclusively to the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of hand and wrist conditions. He has performed thousands of procedures ranging from carpal tunnel release and nerve decompression to reconstructive tendon transfers, fracture fixation, and treatment of complex arthritis. He is also experienced in trauma-related injuries, occupational hand conditions, nerve compression syndromes, Dupuytren’s disease, CRPS, and surgical management of chronic pain syndromes. Dr. Traverso's academic background enhances his ability to critically evaluate complex clinical scenarios and deliver evidence-based opinions rooted in peer-reviewed literature and current standards of care. He is fully licensed to practice medicine and surgery in the State of Florida and Connecticut and maintains active certification through the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery (Hand Subspecialty). He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Traverso is deeply committed to global health and surgical outreach. Each year, he leads a volunteer surgical team to Trinidad—his home country—providing pro bono care to children suffering from congenital hand differences and to individuals with traumatic injuries. These missions focus on restoring function, independence, and quality of life for underserved patients who would otherwise lack access to specialized hand surgery. Dr. Traverso is directly involved in coordinating all aspects of these efforts, including patient selection, surgical planning, and post-operative care, reflecting his dedication to compassionate, community-centered medicine.
