Dr. Ilan Mizrahi is a Harvard-trained, double board-certified, anesthesiologist and critical-care intensivist in active practice at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Mizrahi has expertise in all aspects of anesthesiology: preoperative evaluation, intraoperative management, and postoperative care. He can provide an expert opinion on the anesthesia standard-of-care during surgery, and on the postoperative management if the patient has a complication after surgery (in the recovery room/PACU or on the floor). Dr. Mizrahi's expertise extends beyond the operating room, as he is an attending physician in the ICU, with expertise in the care of critically ill surgical and medical patients He can provide guidance on the standard-of-care for patients throughout their hospitalization. This includes failure-to-rescue for patients with complications that are not recognized or treated in a timely fashion. He is the director of Quality Improvement in the Surgical ICU at MGH, and reviews all cases of death or complications for monthly M&M conference. He also cares for patients who have suffered a cardiac arrest/"code-blue", need CPR after a "rapid-response event", or need emergent intubation. He has practiced critical care in academic and community environments. He has written multiple book chapters and has lectured about anesthesia and critical care. He was recognized as one of the "Best Teachers" in the department in 2021. He is active faculty at Harvard Medical School--teaching basic pharmacology to 1st year students, and serves at the course director for the Surgical ICU rotation.
