Additional Information

Mingxi is a Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer in the state of California with expertise in materials development and mechanical engineering across a broad range of industries. She holds a Master's and a Bachelor's degree in Material Science and Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. With a specialty in materials science, metallurgy, fracture mechanics and failure analysis, she has hands-on industry experience in materials testing and process development in the aerospace and manufacturing industries. Her time as a working engineer in advanced manufacturing and startup environments has proven invaluable in providing evidence and practice-based expert opinions and testimony regarding engineering, manufacturing, risk assessment and warnings. Prior to joining Berkeley Engineering And Research, Inc., she held engineering roles at SpaceX, Virgin Orbit, and Carbon 3D, where she worked on integrating Mil, ASTM, ISO, and NASA specifications into developing intellectual property and the product development process, in addition to conducting failure analysis on critical flight components. Her experience at young companies and startups resulted in specialized knowledge in how to transition from R&D to full scale production. In addition to knowledge of traditional materials and processing methods, she has developed characterization methods for additive manufacturing of metallic and polymeric materials. She takes a big picture approach, making sure that not only the details are caught, but also ensuring cases stay on track without distractions. Projects have included reusability and fatigue analysis on structural components of the Falcon 9 launch vehicle at SpaceX, manufacturing process development of novel textile materials, process optimization for Direct Energy Deposition (DED) additive manufacturing at Virgin Orbit, and design/failure analysis of heavy machinery, mechanical fixtures, battery technology, and consumer products. In addition to providing engineering expertise, her experience as an expert witness allows her to provide guidance on strategic opportunities. This includes anticipating counter-arguments, identifying points of strength or weakness, and advising on multiple routes of strategy, so that all cases are approached tactfully and efficiently. Mingxi is available for cases nationwide and has successfully worked on cases for both plaintiff and defense in CA, TX, NV, MA, NY, FL, ID, WA, OR, VA, NM, GA, and NC.
