Forensic Nurse Examiner, Instructor and Expert Witness Amber J. Ban is a master's prepared RN of 20 years, with 11 years of specialty practice as a Forensic Nurse Examiner. She is Board Certified as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner- Adult/Adolescent, a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner- Pediatric, and an Advanced Forensic Nurse. She routinely provides, and has provided over 700 comprehensive medical-forensic examinations related to survived strangulation of the neck in domestic/intimate partner violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, elder abuse, suspect exams and child abuse injury documentation. She has extensive education and experience in every component of the medical and evidentiary care of the assault/abuse patient. Amber is an expert on the background and lethality of non fatal strangulation of the neck, mechanisms of strangulation, signs and symptoms of strangulation injury, & medical protocols and interventions. She is an expert on sexual abuse and assault, including anogenital findings and injury with interpretation related to sexual contact, bodily injury in assault, STI and infection prevention, post-assault medical treatment protocols, forensic evidence collection, chain of custody, and forensic photography. As a Forensic Nurse Expert Witness, she has provided legal case consultations, record reviews, and technical reports for attorneys representing all counsel. She has confidently provided court testimony as both a fact and expert witness in various settings including civil court, criminal court, juvenile court, military court martial, immigration court, and Title IX campus investigations. She is committed to maintaining neutrality and objectivity in clinical practice and on the stand. Her testimony is based on both her clinical experience and the current medical literature. Amber is a qualified and confident public speaker, trainer, and community educator. She is former Director at Large for the Arkansas Forensic Nursing Association, a Clinical and Didactic SANE Instructor and for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Former Chair of the NWA Community Onboarding, Safety, Awareness and Response council (CoSAR), full time Administrator for UAMS TeleSANE program serving sexual assault patients via Telehealth, a Statewide Clinical PSANE Preceptor for the state CAC network, a member of the Medical Committee for the CACs of Arkansas Network, and leads the strangulation response projects across Northwest Arkansas.
